Edition of Special Report online -- -- -- are -- a little -- had a little technical difficulty but we are now fixed and ready to go you should be able to see and hear us.
And if you haven't been here before.
Thanks for sticking around and welcome if you don't like that clicking sound that you hear when people are typing in messages here's what you do.
Look at this see this.
Right there is -- speaker.
-- news hit like that clicking sound goes away.
And that's the -- of the problem -- So our panel still here stayed with us Steve -- Charles let's start with.
He's off the campaign trail -- three or so days.
He's doing a lot of radio interviews with.
Many stations that have large African American audiences.
He's talking to union supporters to get out the vote he was one thing he said on the Tom Joyner morning show.
About the situation would -- -- We're gonna active steps to -- that a report.
-- justice albeit.
By Republicans but for what -- very good girl with priority you right now.
Not exactly for.
Folks who make more than two out of fifty I'll -- here.
Charles some people perked up when -- heard we're going to have to take some active steps to drive down unemployed.
And unemployment rate that's -- -- point 6%.
Well yeah I mean -- as -- influence here have.
He promised us who remember the original stimulus was supposed to keep -- -- -- 8% said Christina Romer and obviously that is exactly and now.
Now of the defense is to say we save -- Jobs which is angels on the head of opinion and you -- -- -- -- Job is unaccountable.
And now which are gonna have to take steps I thought the other I was really struck me is.
This is the usual Obama -- to these opponents.
The basis motives of all he's -- sitting on employment and the other guys are not.
They're only interested in making sure the rich are richer mean.
Rather inaction is about jobs jobs jobs -- commercials -- trips without even mean it assuming that the audience is so stupid that it won't know.
That the reason that Republicans argue that you don't want to raise income taxes is because it discourages.
Business particularly smaller businesses from hiring.
And it's all about unemployment that perhaps.
You know in the middle of a recession -- high unemployment you don't wanna raise what will essentially be half the income of all small business in the United States.
The fact that Obama doesn't acknowledge that and speaks with such -- this divisiveness.
Of what is nothing less than the evil.
Of his opponents continues to astonishment he does it repeatedly.
And in a way that I think is fairly unique for a present.
While we -- know six days from election and he's trying to fire the base.
But at the same time is giving interviews to the National Journal and others saying really want to work together build a consensus.
Work with Republicans get things done.
And then you know novel punish the enemies -- and then it's.
Well the thing is that there are a lot of equally harsh things being said about him I mean come -- we're in the midst of very.
Hard fought campaign and people are saying that he's a socialist and all sorts of other things.
The fact is that what is interesting is that because this isn't a surprise elections wade has been building for so long there is a lot of discussion including of the White House and now he's doing in the press.
But what happens after November 3 and -- the two sides cooperate.
On solving some of these problems when you have more Republicans in congress and fewer Democrats -- in that same National Journal.
I'm Mitch McConnell gave an interview to Major Garrett where he was asked what's your main job and he says our main job is making sure that Obama is a one term president I mean there wasn't even any pretense about.
Solving the the country's problems so both sides are.
Right now at their most partisan I do think it's a really -- -- question to see what if anything.
They can do together to solve.
Problems like the economy there isn't going to be any more big stimulus programs that rely on spending that is just over they're gonna have to come up with something else.
Steve mixed message.
Yeah this -- -- actually that you I mean one of the most popular radio programs for Democrats.
-- before every election is the Tom Joyner show and I remember going back during that the Clinton.
Years and forward when Al Gore was running John Kerry was running he had campaign surrogates and that the people running.
-- -- Tom Joyner show on shows the target largely black voters to get voters motivated to go to the polls this this is -- you know.
Playbook 101 did I think the White House is doing this too they launched this new domestic violence program -- appealing to women.
-- this is what the president is doing by going to Charlottesville to turn up the pace for Tom Perriello this is exactly what the White House thanks I think correctly.
Could help stem some of the losses in what's sure to be a massive wave action.
Lots of messages you wouldn't his -- -- thing it's great to see him panel Charles.
Hero is -- Now taking for granted.
-- located is because it's not the past week it's been interest.
Because I gave up an opportunity it'd be.
Don't have to worry about that.
He's the president.
To some candidates out there that we talked about -- Ontario and Virginia.
Or is he -- and is this the reason why isn't the White House for the three day well.
I I think he's definitely -- witness protection he clearly is hiding out of the way announced he's doing these.
Young people would Jon Stewart African Americans who -- joiner doing these two targeted interviews.
The one time he goes out is it's really interesting.
Virginia race where as we said as we said in the in this and they show.
You've got a Democrat who stood there are approves of what kind of Russ Feingold.
Of the house who's gonna go down with the ship.
And if you already committed to Obama on all the issues you might as well have -- and have them help to turnout.
The database I think actually this will hurt the Democrat in that district.
And I think even know I mean they are obviously calculated otherwise.
I think in the net it reminds people of how much.
He is -- with a Obama.
And the reason it's only happen here I think Morris said on the main show that is the only dedicated appearance to a house member.
Is because the other people don't want and he really is and it's.
We should say this weekend he's calling it Connecticut Illinois Pennsylvania -- Ohio -- -- he is traveling a lot frighten -- Saturday.
And Ohio I mean I -- -- the slot he's been there I think nineteen times he's popular drivers and sort of thing is popularly I was having him -- in low.
Thirties or maybe in -- -- I think.
It but it's it's all of a debate through the entire operation is about getting the base what does the space even if it's motivated -- Strickland across long now I -- I think Altman.
It's not because what you have to happen in the calculation -- is that the undecideds and many of these races in you know in California -- 8%.
Our declared on the -- right now.
The calculation is that.
These people are going to be late -- for the incumbent I think that's it highly implausible when you're staring at the kind of a wave.
That we appear to be staring at and you know for the president to go and try to get up the base it makes you know it makes some sense because it's really the only thing I think.
That he can actually do at this point otherwise he really does just have to sit in the White House and do not.
It's true the Democrats want him to do this is not going anywhere that somebody -- doesn't hasn't asked him -- -- he's got a lot of and attention.
-- they're making a calculation which you lose a mom.
Undecided independents -- you don't wanna remind about Obama you know win them of them debates I think it's a miscalculation.
If you've got undecided out there and of them mostly independents and Obama shows up.
I think that is maybe -- heavy negative.
What about -- this.
Democratic governors that in Rhode Island frank Caprio who says.
You know take your endorsement and -- -- now we hear that former President Clinton.
Is going to campaign.
For -- This weekend.
Well this feels like.
Clinton with Roman -- in Colorado well except -- -- okay let's just first of all Obama didn't endorse anybody.
In this race that out of respect for eradicate it -- -- -- -- -- endorsement change the course but but the fact is that he.
Did this out of respective season for his friends -- KP.
Caprio was told that he wasn't going to be getting endorsement of President Obama he used his choice words to say you know take your job and figure -- Travis.
That was -- really kinda uncomfortable.
Moments especially for the Democratic Governors Association.
Who is trying really hard to to get their guy over the finish line in the three way race.
The president went to Rhode Island he did -- the trouble -- fund raiser.
It is small business event DiCaprio didn't show up -- it because he was so steamed.
He could still win I mean there polls that have shown shaping up -- their polls that -- -- up.
Somebody who is.
Who is relatively pro Obama is probably when.
But can we just point out from -- to the 30000 point of view.
30000 foot when you.
Just how dysfunctional.
This shows the Democrats a citizen now what you've had that the follow on stories the second -- stories are the White House saying.
Well you know Caprio really ask us for our their endorsement and early.
In early October several weeks ago that he would want it and why and and they said they would actually I got this might be in the press between the democratic gubernatorial candidate -- around.
And the White House and then you've got.
Then the executive director of the Democratic Governors Association saying he was surprised and disappointed with his quote.
The President Obama had decided not to endorse the democratic candidate.
In the right you've got these you know with either elected officials soon to be elected officials heads of these big powerful party groups and the White House.
All -- shots at each other in the public.
We have six days before this big major election it's it's extraordinary.
And tripling the weirdness is that appointment.
Yet here he comes in amid all the all the shooting.
And he's and he's going to endorse a guy who had just sort of insulted them the president no way that's.
Relatively unprecedented for a democratic candidate for anything.
I think the whole Clinton story had the side side bar basically has been one of the most interesting as well -- number one he's been resurrected.
Number two he also is a model for what you do after you lose congress.
And he's able to go all these places that Obama -- not just places where the personally endorsed Hillary like frank Caprio but also just states -- industry.
Is it also a message if it doesn't work out -- Obama.
Here we I mean that's what Michael and Fort Leavenworth Kansas just wrote does that show that Clinton really has his wife's back perhaps for -- -- well.
For twenty vital sixteen not not really well to anything actually that's not.
I think it will not ten Italians that I actually think and -- and I maybe wrong you you have we've -- resources at the White House tonight.
I actually think that this is probably something that president Clinton's people cleared with the White House set -- I'm gonna do this and they got they got at least.
They didn't get a green light they got at least -- yellow I mean I didn't.
Clear he -- not against Caprio.
He has a friendship with -- Chafee across party lines to support him over John McCain.
A back when when -- was -- pilot Robert media did not no probably about half hour that -- certainly I -- you're not important here against.
And Bill Clinton has not exactly said wonderful things about the administration.
And how they've sold their legislative.
On the stump in fact his stem winder includes some rip -- Of -- -- and however neutral violence feelings about -- word as of last week.
I assume it was powered by suggestion about and how big issue is voter fraud.
Is it I mean is it a perennial issue isn't something that is going to factory so many close races around the country.
It's a perennial issue but I think this new.
Going away from Election Day two absentee.
Is simply gonna make it infinitely worse I mean you're always gonna have a measure.
Fraud when you're in the Booth -- cheating going in maybe somebody -- -- machine.
Or afterwards won't count the votes but once you're mailing stuff him.
The controls over that are infinitely less than having and I think it.
Actually as a cystic event we ought to be there on Election Day as a kind of a ritual of the -- -- so I'm not even sure I like it for other reasons.
But it will surely increase the amount of -- fraud and and cheating in this and I think it will do it on -- scale that we have really seen in the past.
Months look at -- that I think it's a perennial issue I think what you do see now are both sides kind of laying down their markers they're Democrats are saying their voter suppression plans that the Republicans are trying Republicans are saying.
Democrats are gonna do this there they're trying to it suits that let us set up the playing field for after the election there is a close race that's contested.
And challenged that they can they can happen.
Because Steve has it looks right now there are going to be close races that are contested no question there may be and I think that's exactly right and I think.
The races that are close right now I mean we were talking about this before the race is -- -- close right now both in the senate and house -- I think if the Republicans are in the margin of error.
A Republican is almost certain to win at this point because I think the -- that have not been able to adequately capture.
The level of intensity that's out there in the number of new voters that's out there.
Having said that there are going to be races where we think that the Republican might be down now I think are more likely to be in this category of races that may be close to close to call or like the Nevada senate race where you have this third party candidate nobody knows exactly how that's gonna play out there other races.
Where that could be a factor I think -- exactly right what they're doing is laying a marker.
And you have seen this over the years I -- -- an investigation is back in the late ninety's when Janet Reno -- was an attorney general.
Someone -- launched an investigation of supposed Republican voter suppression efforts and -- a huge deal and the president was out President Clinton was out warning about this.
Al Gore was out warning about this -- was this week long effort directed by the White House and the Justice Department.
And it was totally made up there was no substance to it whatsoever -- I -- all of these phone calls going back looking at this.
Nobody can actually substantiate any of the claims that were coming from the attorney and I think both sides do this for sure.
But you're you're certainly gonna see this and that in the letter that we stuff agreement shall lose the campaign -- for care and I think.
Is laying down that marker and saying look we've gotten reports about this we're getting out now so in the event chemicals close tally.
-- if we can honor.
And find -- -- of what he -- talking about Starbucks gift cards that went it will be through Asia easily and you you punch a button for.
Chad Angola and -- Harry Reid pops up as you read you think of these going to be something -- you.
It's a groom and or it's achieved.
And I mean I -- imagined it if it is delivered braves have to be.
As if the voter -- what -- stupid to do in early voting -- wait till Tuesday.
You know we're gonna -- -- aren't exactly we've got to be cutting about this quickly.
Nothing there is that there is a record you know there's something that you can you always you know couldn't record on a lot of spirituality.
-- -- the -- Every Sunday -- -- -- -- still hanging chads out there.
Understood to have true.
Forty days in Tallahassee I can tell you I'm sick sanctions which we were supposed to have a great reform -- in the national reform of the new machines and the whole thing.
Nothing can with this this is the big picture that you can and there's a certain level which this just defies common sense because people.
You know I'm -- -- -- every time I walk in and vote I'm surprised that I'm not asked for -- how to activate knowing him why we don't like it might walk into another polling place.
In another locality.
You have -- tech analysts that you get somebody's name and walking you don't have to show ideas and -- you -- you -- them this person I'm gonna vote I mean.
-- you know everybody it's the same in Wisconsin Wisconsin is one of the worst states in terms of vote for.
And I don't want.
This to this.
Firm we believe you know done on my -- my prediction hasn't wavered in like six months what it 65 house.
And I think this and it will be decided by a seat or two -- -- 99 or ten.
-- media not.
And I -- had to go ahead and we will take it that -- my nine.
-- -- -- -- -- -- The correct answers this.
Eight in the -- 55.
In the house and the Rangers in six.
Red job types it this is the only thing that -- -- US Mars if she's felt that he from -- regarding her appearance on fox.
