Reported earlier here both parties today pick their respective leaders in the House of Representatives Republican -- controlled house obviously after Democrats suffered.
Near historic election losses this month.
And political analysts say it all came down to the Tea Party movement and long serving public officials lost their respective races including our next -- the Florida governor Charlie Crist.
He's a former Republican who left the party after it became clear he would lose senate primary -- back challenger Marco Rubio.
Rubio went on to win the senate race in that senate seat in a three way race.
Joyce -- on politics and other matters the Florida governor Charlie -- are great to see you thank you.
Great to see you show up how -- things with you they're great we miss you in the latter days of the campaign you were difficult -- -- -- at that time and I wonder upon reflection if you haven't thought about.
What went wrong.
What went wrong I would get enough votes is ha -- Why -- that I think that what I think Marco Rivera ran a great campaign.
And and he should be credited to that his team and I know that he will serve the people Florida while one of the things I like the most.
Is the fact of talking about reducing spending I think that's so important I mean it's something I believed then and did as governor and I think it's important.
That he stay on that message and then come through and I'm sure well -- -- the Democrats have lost well the Republicans now have control.
Of everything in the entire state of Florida both houses.
The governor -- everything it's it's it's it's it's all gone what happened.
Well I think the Republicans had a very good message and we're very focused and communicated very effectively.
I mean talking about reducing spending reducing taxes produced -- a government.
Is exactly what the electorate obviously -- it and they communicated it in a way that was apparently incredibly effective.
Really hit the mark and on Election Day it you know it it was driven home and you know -- -- to them for doing so well.
And so effectively -- What what happens next -- you.
I don't know number one -- got to finish this job is as strongly as I can I've got about another fifty or so days as governor of Florida -- January 4.
We've got some clemency issues to deal with I've got some judges to a point.
And I have to work very hard and and a -- to do so have a smooth transition to the new governor governor -- Rick Scott.
And so we're working 147.
To make sure that we do that because it's right for the people of Florida and it's right for Florida's future and one of the things are talking about is a pardon.
Of Jim Morrison and we'll talk about that when we come back in addition the Tea Party good for America bad for America and will divide the party that's next.
Governor you said during your campaign should you have one over Marco Rubio and Kendrick Meek that you would caucus with the Democrats are you a Democrat now.
I actually did not say that I said that if I had the honor of winning the election that I would ask tough questions when I got to Washington that's all pretty academic now obvious right.
But lot of what a fast you know who would have been asked it's stronger at providing new jobs a better economy.
Helping us with the national catastrophic fund in Florida.
So you know -- -- I want I would have asked those questions determine which for the best dancers and best for the people of Florida.
And then made a decision all right now let's get to the Tea Party Marco Rubio obviously Tea Party favorite appears to be in line to be a pretty powerful guy in the Tea Party.
Will the Tea Party need to come to the middle or will the moderates in the Republican Party need to go to the left for it to be successful which.
Well I think get to find common ground in in order for there to be success I mean you know this is a business where having -- majority is pretty darn important and I think that.
Unless there is some common ground that can be found.
It may be difficult for the Republicans going forward you know those who have a more moderate view such -- side.
You know I believe in reducing spending but I don't think we -- -- get so involved in the social issues.
Or if the party's -- you know keep going more to the right.
And in order to be successful.
In future races you know in the senate or for the White House I think it's important that common ground has to be found.
Or that's going to be difficult to achieve sure to find common ground let's just talk about it is as if it were Lance Bass.
If some people over here and some people over here there's somewhere in the middle either these -- come over here.
Or these can come over here or they meet in the middle.
Do you think that the Tea Party is need to come in and that the moderates need to go farther right is that is that how gets better.
Because I don't see any -- the -- -- Yeah well I think you're right certainly at this point in time I think that's exactly the case and I think what has to happen now just as a natural consequence of political gravity if you will if they're going to be successful going forward there has to be some common ground that can be.
Seized upon and unless and until that occurs.
If there's a further movement to the right for example although it's hard to envision how much more to the right it could go.
That's going to be I think that the call.
For successful -- races in the future.
What I think the American people want -- they want people to be focused on jobs that are going to be focused on cutting spending.
And working together to get those things done regardless of strong ideology right or -- Jim Morrison died 39 years ago and now you're about to pardon him it's my understanding on the way out sadly only have about fifteen seconds but why do it.
You know when you review the case and realize what happened or what did not happen.
What evidence was able to be presented during the trial of so long ago.
It seems like it's only the right thing to do for him and his legacy and its fans Charlie Crist the outgoing governor of my -- states.
governor thank you very much for being here mr.
governor was that's.
