The members of the west Borough Baptist Church hate gays and for years have decided to show that hate.
By protesting at the funerals of fallen US soldiers.
Don't look for logic there isn't any.
Well when folks in Weston Missouri got word that the west -- members were on their way to sergeant first class C Jason -- funeral.
They said not here.
Not this day.
And Rebecca Rooney was the woman behind that effort she's my guess now Rebecca it's an honor to have you here.
I -- it's an honor beyond that and I'm so touched by the story are overwhelmed in the end of email response to our viewers has been incredible you heard that they were coming.
You decided to organize your small town almost half of the town showed up.
And how'd you put a stop to it.
-- Well basically.
-- already had one young fallen soldier from Weston Colby Foreman and his family every year has a walk to remember.
Where we actually have pictures on the -- so that -- body conceal the fallen soldiers from Kansas and Missouri and the patriot guard writers are always stare.
And so I've gotten to know them over the years and I checks on their website and you can actually load onto it for free and find out any events that are coming.
So when I saw this one I got a hold of Becky who's one of their officers.
And she sent me the itinerary what writers planned to do in -- all the details that I needed.
And just sort.
Yours know the patriot guard riders are devoted to stopping the west -- -- Baptist Church protest their prerequisite there on their mission statement is respect.
They say just show -- sincere respect for our -- here funerals for our fallen heroes at the funerals and shield the mourning family.
And they don't want violence they don't confrontation they want to protect the for the grieving families and you've joined them and you did that with these flags and protesters.
All over the sight of that funeral tell us where you where you -- -- stationed.
Well we weren't the intersection where I that I understood that they were gonna take one of the corners here because -- asked about it with the city.
And so what we did is we went there is one of them in front of one of our little shopping areas and so we -- -- that they couldn't get close.
And any other places we also had people park and just be there to where I knew that they have to get out of hand and I figured they would indeed dat.
We had one corner which is full of VFW and American legion gentlemen.
And then all the other -- people just lined up and -- have brought their flags.
These one a couple of minute actually brought car from a dealership -- a very big flag in there.
And that was gonna help block the people when they got there so the family hands ever have to lay eyes on those hateful protesters and all they would see.
-- American flags and here patriotic music playing as they entered an -- the church.
Well the church's about a mile away that this is intersection at which the people from -- west for church were going to be.
I asked for people to bring CDs but these young ladies from another business down their rock guitar sound systems so we had.
A lot of background music.
The people finally did get out of their -- they put up all their signs.
-- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- Well they opened -- -- -- and they -- came -- they started chanting they started saying I -- there's -- swan -- about.
God hates America.
They have little kids even holding up these signs.
And that was one of the reasons that I wanted to stop because I just could imagine all these little kids you know senior daddy's funeral and seeing -- -- soldiers and things like that.
That the other two men they pulled -- front of them with the flag and deep patriot guard was on the other sites when they got way out they just -- their voters that nobody hurt them.
And after only about fifty minutes left and I know you said that's that these men have gone to serve just so that we could be able to do this come out.
And and counter protest if you well and and as a result.
They did not die in -- That is correct and the thing is that these other people they -- study law.
They may know the law but you know what we -- the law and so it was just important for us to actually extend our own civil rights.
In that dignified manner because the name of the operation was operation and you know dignified protective stance.
So it's -- -- all you didn't want any fighting because that would have been disrespectful to the soldiers as well.
Rebecca good for you good for the town of Weston and -- for the patriot guard -- bless all of you thanks so much for being honest thank you very much credible right.
