Today I'm proud to announce the appointment.
An experienced public servant.
A devoted patriots.
Told Chicago and bill -- to serve as Mike Hsu.
-- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- You know they're all college professors that not a former elected officials.
There's a guy who's actually been on the private sector have been a part of business.
Frankly my first reaction -- the sound like a good idea.
There's some reaction the White House to them.
Chief of staff naming -- bill Daley former commerce secretary but here's the -- reaction.
Here's a Twitter -- rather from mark personally it's just daily Kos founder -- -- -- -- Ezra Klein on his blog said the daily pick seems.
Like a bad idea to -- liberal blogger -- Jane Hampshire said house oversight committee chairman Darrell ice is going to be investigating Fannie and Freddie.
-- it was a Fannie Mae board member -- is the third most hated company in America is sort of like painting a sign on your back this is kick me.
And then here's Robert weissman with he's the president public citizen.
Why in the world as President Obama selecting as his chief of staff -- person who comes from the very Wall Street that wrecked the economy.
And who is an ardent supporter of the job offshoring NAFTA style trade agreements that have hollowed out the industrial heartland this is exactly the wrong direction.
For the administration.
So what about this pick.
Let's bring in our -- Jonah Goldberg at large editor of the national review online Juan Williams Fox News contributor and syndicated columnist Charles carve out -- It's very hard for -- tease out all my different cynical interpretations for all of this but -- at on the surface level that was a smart move for Obama.
From policy wise I think it's probably good news in terms of if you want to move the center where the better policies are that's good news but.
Politically what it is fascinating about it is.
He won an exit left that in some of those statements that that Daley opposed it was Obama care -- -- talk about a little bit -- interest angle.
This is a brilliant move for a guy who's planning on raising a billion dollars to run for president again.
And it's a great way to sort of blunt opposition from the chamber of commerce which did a great deal to hurt them in the mid term elections and we always -- knew this White House was terrified of the chamber of commerce.
So that was smart politics.
Ticking off a bunch of left wing blogger is I don't think ever really hurts a democratic president.
And we'll just have to see whether it's window dressing or where they're really -- policy why I mean essentially the White House is saying.
We are not gonna pay attention to the carping on the left.
Right nationalist -- And I guess we -- -- Robert Gibbs in the house of yeah I mean.
And to me what's -- thing here is.
That they are willing to alienate people who have been -- order for them now they say the left that you just cited in put up all those postings from.
Are saying that in fact -- -- quarter for Wall Street and that America hates Wall Street formally with JPMorgan JPMorgan Chase and that also Fannie -- I think one blogger pointed out that he -- Fannie -- and they called the third most hated.
Group or corporation in America and so why -- -- Obama bringing these folks and the quick answer is -- just told you is he wants to make friends with the business community I thought the one of the more insightful comment that I saw was.
That bill -- is as chief of staff will determine who gets to see the president.
And I think you're gonna see far more meetings with the business community and President Obama and the level of trust.
Among people who had given money to -- Obama during the campaign from Wall Street.
Really was gone after the first two years.
He's trying to rebuild that trust and by extension I think get those people went to invest in his ideas his sense of vision for the country.
Get those people took say yes -- -- more jobs to more investment in what he calls growth or green shoots economy.
That's that's what this is about.
Charles little more than a year ago daily wrote an op Ed for the Washington Post in which he said this quote the agenda of the party's most liberal supporters has not won the support of the majority of Americans.
The leaders of the Democratic Party need to move back toward the center.
And in doing so set the stage for the many years worth of leadership necessary to produce the sort of pragmatic change.
The American people actually want.
This is a perfect statement from the daily statement in the year ago is a perfect statement.
-- Obama alliance for the country to think he's doing and will do for the next two years this is a classic example of free position.
I don't believe it's actual the repositioning in the sense that he's changing his ideology.
The election November -- to give them a road to Damascus moment -- she decided -- can become a centrist.
He's not but he he's a smart man and he understands there's no way in an extra two years while the house is Republican -- any of the liberal -- in the past.
So the next two years are devoted to.
Presenting himself an acting as a centrist which is smart that's the only way you'll get reelection.
And then if he wins reelection he's got a free hand and an extra four years Daly is -- perfect guy in the early ninety's he was a man who shepherded NAFTA.
And the year Chinese that the trade agreement which is of course anathema to unions.
So he's a free trader he's a guy who as we heard opposed Obama care he's a guy who also as a lobbyist and -- for JPMorgan.
Had opposed the financial reform somewhat all the major.
Liberals -- sort of semi radical.
Items that Obama had gotten through 100 left.
111 for congress.
He's against it say he's a guy you want as the face of this administration for the next two years from a political perspective it's exactly the right to.
Meantime -- there's other changes here the economic team is changing dramatically Larry Summers left now Gene Sperling is the new director.
Of the White House -- National Economic Council.
Gene Sperling also ties to the Clinton administration Paul Volcker is now leaving as well.
This is a big shake up.
In the economic team team and I'm still shaky economic times is and it's it's it's sort of ironic in the sense that -- how much.
Barack Obama sort of -- -- Clintons as sort of some.
All ball presidency and he wanted to be the left wing.
Reagan and now -- am he is trying to do.
Is certain just basically take the entire Clinton team on board and and do a replay of all that while the same time saying he's not.
Part while we're talking staff changes.
We would be remiss if we didn't ask you about the NPR staff change today.
The Alan Weiss senior vice president for news announced her resignation.
After a review.
Of the firing a view from NPR.
Vivian -- the CEO is keeping her job but will not receive -- 2010 bonus your reaction.
It's all of that the announcement today.
Well I think it's good friend PR you know that institution if it wants to go -- -- a major news organization and it it has a huge audience.
Have to have some reforms from the inside they have to be open to other points of view to people who come in.
And represent the larger world.
Right now I think there are oftentimes exercising.
Strict liberal orthodoxy in terms of the kind of -- was -- get covered in the way those -- get reported.
And I think schoeneweis was the enforcer of that kind of very.
In grown even incestuous thinking thank -- show -- job.
I'm not gonna get into you know I mean I thought I was treated pretty shabbily I think people should be treated with some sense of decency obviously I was very surprised by the amount of legitimacy that came to this.
Investigation I thought it was simply going to be about disparaging me and to further justify what they had done so I'm surprised anything has happened.
But clearly someone who called me a cycle alone I don't have to me.
Positive feelings about.
All right we'll leave it there next up Republicans target health care and demand the reading of the constitution.
So do you think the reading the constitution was a good move today -- our online poll foxnews.com.
