Welcome back the strategy room and breaking news I'm Trace Gallagher we just got more Britain is coming -- on this tragedy in -- call West Virginia the mining tragedy.
At last check 25 miners confirmed dead in this methane gas explosion and -- are still missing.
Steve Centanni the national correspondent is on scene for -- -- Steve give us an idea.
If you will about about when this search for these missing for my resume again how much work.
Drilling down into that now they have to do.
Well it's hard to know exactly Trace how long it's gonna take we know it's a long and tedious process they're trying to drill three different holes.
From the top of the mountain down into the shafts -- 11100 feet underground.
Where that huge methane explosion happened yesterday we're getting conflicting information on how long that might take.
The governor said he expects it might be wrapped up some time this evening after darker longer than before dark.
But we heard from -- on mine officials.
Not the mine company but some government officials have government regulators.
That it might not be until sometime tomorrow before they get them all -- And they will need the three holes -- of course been out that poisonous gas this accumulated down underground.
So that rescue crews can go back and they -- and overnight and they did pull out eleven people their move those bodies and identified them.
But still fourteen remain in there and fourteen bodies because they know -- -- -- -- And for others who -- unaccounted for and that's the key -- -- who want to find out as soon as possible.
Whether or not they're dead or alive the -- are hanging on every word from the rescue crews from government officials from the mine operators.
And right now they really don't know what to think.
It's crucial that we get that worked out or they get that work done and get the word the -- one where the other.
-- agony and and yet another phrasing down -- -- is bad situation is very dire concerning these four miners were still missing.
We'll talk about these safe rooms a little bit Steve that they now have a live in the wake of the 2006 -- gold mine disaster.
They now have these safe rooms they've checked out one of them and nobody is inside there apparently is one more left what are the odds.
From those on the ground what are they saying the odds are that these four miners were missing may have made it -- to be safe rooms.
Evidence -- exact odds but there is what they call -- rescue chamber.
Down there -- if you can get into it you'll have enough air to last you for 96 hours -- have food and water as well.
And have a pretty good chance of surviving now we know there was one in the area were at least three of these missing guys work.
Whether or not they found their way into -- whether they had the opportunity to get there.
Where they -- injured too quickly and incapacitated.
We don't know but if indeed they found their way into that rescue chamber.
Certainly they could be alive and that's the one shred of hope.
People are clinging to hear in this devastated community today.
Steve do we know these rescue chambers had any communication if they're supposed to be radios inside or some kind of a phone system inside these rescue chambers they could notify people that they might have gotten in there.
Iraq right there is supposed to be wireless communication from inside the mind -- that could've been blown out by the explorer.
And actually I'm being told I have to go because we have a hit for the news channel right now Steve Centanni is live for us -- on scene there and -- west Virginia's Steve thank you very much appreciate that again 25 years -- miners confirmed killed in that -- are still missing Steve -- doing yeoman work for both.
