Let's talk more about the the happy couple of Dana Huntley.
Doctor Dan -- BP HD is the editor British heritage.
And he joins us from our Washington newsroom -- to talk to you sir thanks very much.
For being here so what do you make of all of this -- William and Kate today today sort of happened in the card.
All absolutely Rick yes thanks for having me up.
Kate and William -- -- -- well suited.
And I'm a mature.
Together couple of this is a very different ball game from the marriage a generation ago between.
Charles and Diana.
Kate and William have been together for years.
They are they're not youngster know they're not kids.
Hiding our they're younger than we are but they're you know they're 29 years old it's not like Diana who is how old when she got -- All of nineteen now just wanting -- -- Kate would will certainly have kids and they'll get some pressure to do it to reasonably quickly but -- they think they have their own folk and they're gonna take their time.
Well I recommend that they had kids as soon as possible.
As a father myself it's a young man's business this.
This fatherhood so feel the longer they wait the more tired they're going to be again up in the middle of the night.
Change in those -- -- is I don't disagree with that principle but I don't.
Think they're gonna do a lot of diaper change.
To your right.
I agree that.
So we we heard a little bit in my colleague Jonathan's report about -- and her her background as a commoner.
Her parents works I think they both worked for British Airways were for -- time.
Before starting their own business they actually did very well financially well enough to send -- to one of the finest schools in in the UK right.
It -- went to -- world college.
And certainly her parents.
Actually there are entrepreneurial success was.
Something that Americans cheer about immediately establish jobs and go start your own business there were successful.
And made a lot of money.
Money can't bonnet and social clients' money can't buy good taste but money can pay for education.
And who she was able to go to this school.
That eventually put her on course to attend the same college's William and that's where they've -- right.
The amendments Iranian troops what Kate picked up a -- world college.
Was in the atmosphere she learned there of the what we do what we don't do the locations.
A -- the upper classes.
So by the time she met.
Prince Andrew Prince William at saint Andrews she -- been very comfortable in his sat.
I'm getting word that I I misspoke and I apologize for this that Diana the princess -- was not in -- the -- that she did have some royal.
Hereditary -- it's called it gave her some some royal blood.
She was out of the -- out of the nobility of the Spencer family.
Remains a part of the ancient nobility.
-- a little different Kate actually the first commoner to merited.
Direct air since.
James the second when he was duke of York married and hide in 1660s.
So this is a very unique things.
Now let's talk about sort of the build the line of succession.
Has I -- to go global war William and Kate could -- -- the throne.
After Queen Elizabeth of course Prince William is I'm sorry Prince Charles -- next in line.
Williams' father although I've heard that there are a lot of people out there -- -- guessing perhaps that.
That Charles could be skipped over in favor of William.
Well that's -- that's populist.
And -- popular concept.
But it's not gonna happen it's not going to happen for two reasons one.
-- Prince Charles has been waiting his whole life with the story.
He's not going to voluntarily.
Give it over.
The difficulty is the only body that could.
Change a succession like that would be parliament.
And the great weakness to that is if fit them.
Tried to do that.
It's in effect denying the hereditary principle that the monarch he's been governed under for years.
It would amount to in fact declaring.
That the monarchy was an elected position and so I'm afraid William's gonna have to wait his turn and -- his father.
It if his sort of longevity is anything like his mother's and his grandmother is before our.
He could be waiting an awfully long time.
That's very true now.
The queen has always.
Said that she would not retire.
Arm and with her mother's longevity she could live -- fifteen years easily -- -- queen mum died she was over a hundred years old exactly.
The difficulty with that is that would make Charles almost eighty before -- became king.
And -- -- you might not in fact get the throne until he was in his sixties.
So there is some -- but now that perhaps the marriage of Kate and William with which her majesty is very comfortable.
May be prompting her to rethink the idea of her retirement area.
