Good morning everybody I'm Jim Pinkerton and welcome to another edition of Fox News watches.
Our inspection I'm joined this morning aren't Brendan -- -- triggered Judy Miller mourning Judy.
Good morning -- Big news front page of the Washington Post.
National security shake up.
Expected there -- -- there's good news it seems to be that it will be the Secretary Gates is leaving the Defense Department.
And Leon Panetta the current CIA director and former Clinton White House chief of staff we'll go -- the Pentagon and David Petraeus.
The -- Iraq.
Not quite -- of Afghanistan.
Both great -- man and then a four star general will be taking over the CIA.
Military are going to the CIA.
Well I yeah.
It is news in.
However I think this is that got to be considered an all star lineup.
I do think it sound a little bit surprising for General Petraeus.
Yeah I know you're actually it's only a few weeks earlier bureau journalism at soldier that he was probably gonna take this -- when I was -- surprised when you said that turns it does seem a little bit like a demotion.
Problem and certainly any.
Puts an end to any thoughts he's gonna build her bra president of guest Robert frankly probably beyond that -- Releases of Republican because if you go to work -- what data -- President Obama appeared general.
In on the way -- a bit late president Eisenhower and part of the way general Eisenhower inherited saved her children.
But -- then actively go to work form our -- in what is sure to BA.
Stormy confirmation process.
For the CIA director job not because anybody really -- nothing against David Petraeus but because this will be their chance to talk about.
Our Afghan policy and you know there's these other news this morning that has some Afghan military officer opened fire inside the capital airport.
And apparently killed six American service members inside the airport you know I mean this is -- got a ridiculous we're always people who aren't for the Afghan military.
And try not to be working suicidal and homicidal -- for the Taliban.
And I think the explanation is really pretty simple.
David Petraeus was never going to run for president in 2012 he kept telling me that -- kept telling everybody.
-- -- -- -- -- Aunt and I think Karen the second part of the explanation is that General Petraeus is a patriot.
And when -- called upon by your president -- except here -- his position of responsibility.
A great deal -- And David Petraeus knows what's at stake because it's me information upon which just hit his own military people county.
The CIA people working in Afghanistan and I don't think he was ever going to -- Alex asked that being sad I have to tell you that he.
Certainly have people around him each time and perhaps him that he would never share -- -- -- -- not -- sister reported her I'm.
She must be very very.
Disappointed I mean I think most people thought he would be -- natural chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.
That's another good point he is natural progression inside the uniformed military would have been so I guess is entered turn -- for the military welcome back.
-- and here aren't gonna disagree with you again.
-- -- -- -- I wouldn't rule.
Anything out for General Petraeus in terms of presidential prospects because once he has done -- and served and that sense -- that the job.
Once people begin to see it lacked we're kind of person he is not just on the battlefield but perhaps -- -- -- civilian leadership position.
It might give him a whole set of new ideas about what he wants to do.
And in his post military life so I would think that somebody like Petraeus -- -- one person he wouldn't want to rule out.
I don't even know whether General Petraeus -- a Republican or Democrat and that's just so -- -- wanted.
Well as it is not a part of who knows he's never he's never said our I think I I think I don't think -- and -- could run for presidency could -- prisons are Republican.
-- -- -- I think even eliminate -- passing -- Goodwin well we see from the flatness of the Republican earth around us in terms of candidates well.
Well -- first organically can't do it well.
Yeah we're never going to do -- -- Harris -- you even as sixty now we're -- -- -- are guilty Revis sixteen it's look at key race.
-- in the course of this confirmation process that's my point.
The upcoming confirmation process before the US senate to become.
-- CIA director.
They're asking over and over again did you approve of president Obama's policies did you do this did you do that what did you think about this what you recommend.
You know what did Secretary Gates tell you what is secretary Hillary Clinton tell you what -- the presidential or the vice president.
You know they're gonna get him on the record no Lynn and -- there's -- -- probably 101000.
Follow up questions and questions are off camera that the -- Sandra -- and growth as well.
They're they're gonna pinning him down as any.
Friend -- photo -- the Obama administration.
In terms of what the job he's going into he's gonna wanna be -- friend.
And him being a friend who's in -- lockstep support there's no other word for what you to say about somebody inside an inside and it in the administration lockstep support.
For the Obama administration that will not -- -- well yeah hypothetical Republican Iowa caucus for five years now.
Well let's shed five years as as you it keeps telling me yeah Christopher Everett in -- politics as if it doesn't happen and turner says -- Petraeus for this -- It's also.
You know generals -- I think cat.
Okay generals are not used to wear -- they are used to managing huge bureaucracies.
But the CIA isn't particularly.
Difficult place to manage and some generals.
You may not be cut out for -- I don't know I'm pretty sure that General Petraeus.
I will be excellent job -- and given what I've seen his leadership abilities in the field but I do think that it is a place it does need a lot of attention.
Leon Panetta has done.
By all accounts a very good job managing -- place that it is not an easy place to manage.
I think Kim I finally figured out that this was really really going to happen.
When I heard that -- Petraeus who is a real -- mile an activist yourselves.
On behalf of military families had accepted a job in Washington's with Elizabeth Warren in the consumer financial protection.
Agency -- -- to work continent and military families that credit and problems -- happening when holly.
Petraeus was moving to Washington I figured it couldn't be too long for General Petraeus finally decided that after a lifetime of separation and serving his country abroad it was time to come.
Served his nation at all.
With his wife at his -- -- -- saying just some personal that I think it must be very nice -- processor to be reunited.
Who should -- of them.
Well we both agree -- isn't it -- -- I confess I hadn't heard.
They don't there's a great man in America -- -- the great contribution to make the country.
-- we'll do a scene and weather again how he makes it -- the years ago Arnold.
Judy and congratulations on and to immediately saw that this was probably gonna happen.
And again if you folks is nobody knows more about national security steps and Judy Miller and their boxes are -- ever.
