Governor nice to say -- thank you so much great YouTube.
Well governor the gates opened some candidates seven jumped in our right not all but I'm sort of curious what the big picture.
What you think the state of the Republican Party is.
Right now.
I think bad principals in the Republican Party are sound that links in our platform are great -- idiosyncrasies that some of the characters within the party.
But the point -- platform are right for America.
It's our job though in the media to challenge to canas may put the mean I'm not -- not been personnel but I mean really grill them on some other things to say about policies.
Imprint perhaps even the missteps early what -- later called a misstep because sometimes those -- the true intentions but the two true view -- and someone after 24 hours to serve.
-- -- -- after getting some heat.
Absolutely.
That is the media is appropriate role and a whole lean.
Beneficial or potential candidate holding their feet to the fire not putting the personal got -- but.
Making sure that the record is clear regarding what it is a faced a York the contents the context of what it is that they're saying that the media's role if the media doesn't play that role then they're not a cornerstone of the democracy that we would like to believe that they are.
Yet.
I'm have a hard time understanding in looking at they heat that we give all of you were pretty rough spot on the UN and some of it is it is -- his first election that is wrong.
Some of -- aggressive which I think is right.
I'm trying to -- like -- anyone even want the job why why would anyone and she wannabe president.
Yes some days I ask myself that when I see -- -- -- kids on the cover of a tabloid.
You know it it is a great personal sacrifice made by.
A candidate to put themselves out there in the name of service but you have to believe that the mission you -- on is that important.
That you do have to make sacrifices in order to.
Help -- -- -- in order to help this country it's like Thomas -- said Greta.
One of our founders he said if -- be trouble let it be in my day that may chip my child may have peace.
I did that what I consider whether running for office or not knowing what a sacrifice -- -- it is in terms of the scrutiny on family but I think you know.
If there's going to be tough times that maybe we should have -- tough times today in order for.
Our children's future to be a bit more prosperous and -- that healthier -- bit safer.
Do you think is the challenge that the last point 436 hours or 48 hours and has been a challenge.
Against speaker Gingrich for what he said about -- -- Paul Ryan said bill in terms of that dealing with the entitlements.
Do you think the challenge of him by the media never going after -- was right or wrong.
Or someplace in between.
I.
I well I think that that the media that we all have our right to house speaker Gingrich what the heck did you mean that.
Paul Ryan's.
Budget plan is radical or social engineering know what is -- -- call.
Is not proposing a plan to counter.
Obama's budget plan that has us on the road to bankruptcy what Paul Ryan's plan does not only does -- tackled the Medicare problems that are.
We're gonna face just a smack dab in our face very shortly and allow for -- safety net to be provided our seniors with health care coverage down the road but Paul Ryan's plan saves us one point two billion dollars a day as compared to.
Obama's big government over spending debt in.
It induced.
Budget plan that he's rammed down our throats.
Yeah I thought I was -- interest in -- -- whole exchange at thought to myself.
If I -- senator Rick Santorum I would send flowers to speaker Gingrich because senator Santorum.
Making the remark about your former running mate John McCain something about him not understanding or knowing torture and what something is some reference to that because that's a question.
You you never get near Senator McCain as he does -- torture more than anybody else.
I thought that in that he sort of and I hate me but -- -- escape this much it could be that debt.
The fuss over speaker Gingrich overshadow them.
You know what I after the whole new Gingrich being in these last 24 hours Greta was bless his heart near Rihanna -- -- -- -- -- in that political game there in the beltway.
They -- really knowing any more than the rest of us Greta it was Newt Gingrich who told me in January of this year.
Sarah Palin needs to slow down and really think through what it is that she has to say well -- He stumbles to we off stump all we all have our strengthen our weaknesses.
And I think what you're gonna see is a field of candidates that are pretty much all -- car.
It's gonna be a level plane -- and our records and our intentions for what it is that we want to see this country become will be -- The voters will have to judge -- not is little slip ups.
-- you -- issue because you and that seems to me.
-- watching candidates run a city go to the point -- to deflect every punch that's coming at you one has to do that to somehow emerging as a leaders that are rising above it and in the front runner -- gets hit hardest from the media and in Austin all the stories come out and and all -- when he went to high school would never liked you comes out of the woodwork as anonymous source and they got all that they some point.
You have to stop the fight and emerges a later and I I don't know how that transition you know is made.
I don't mean -- -- little part of -- or anybody else -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- candidates.
-- here's how that transition is made part of it is.
Voters having to do their own homework.
And research a candidates record.
See if they have walked the -- not just talk the talk in their own personal life and then their political and professional life have they had opportunity.
To not squander other people's money.
But -- in prudently and wisely invest those tax Payer dollars and Vito excess spending have they had a opportunity.
To do all that they can for aggressive responsible resource developments in their community here in their state -- in our nation or have they just that kind of gone along to get along with those who are anti development in order to placate -- strike deals.
That there's a myriad of examples like -- -- you Greta but it it all has to do with the candidates record gold voters and look at what they have stood for in the past.
And use that adds up benchmark -- where it is that you believe they intend to take this country.
What.
I -- most though about this whole process we -- is only gonna.
Is the and a necessity in -- has to do it -- this that you have to change the money.
You have to go on the money and I and I understand that there the First Amendment attachment to the money the free speech aspect.
But I tell you I think that in some ways -- diminishes the process you know it it every day I get notes where every single candidate is out of some fund raisers something that.
And I think to myself you know I don't have a better idea but that seems to -- -- or cheapen the process.
Yeah I agree with you -- toughest thing that I had to do we and you might two decades of politicking and has banned the fund raising I don't like asking other people for money that's -- my campaigns and City Council to mayor to governor.
They've always -- Pretty much the least funded under funded campaigns we still we know along the way because I don't have a lot of faith in the in the voters -- they doing their homework and and I getting a message across to them.
But yes it's very unpleasant to it's not a natural thing to do for someone like me to ask people to give me money so that I can get out there and fight for their rights but it's it's a necessary evil I suppose.
Indian air tonight that when Governor Huckabee and announced that he wasn't gonna run -- -- and it wasn't as hard in the way I I think is that you don't of the fire in your belly.
Do you have that magnolia Minnesota but do you have that fire in your -- do you really want it.
Now.
That's a great question and I I think my problem is that I do have the fire in my belly diet and so.
-- -- -- I'm supportive of of the good traditional things about America and our free enterprise system and I want to make sure that America is put back on the right track and we only do that by defeating Obama in 2012.
I have that fire my belly.
It's a matter for me above some practical.
Pragmatic decisions that have to be made one is at with a large family understanding the huge shipped and didn't amount of scrutiny and the sacrifices that have to be made on my children's part.
In order to see their mom are run for president but yeah a fire in the belly it it's they -- that that that's kind of my problem is that.
It's roaring fire in my belly to.
Preserve and restore all -- good about America that -- -- I struggle with that every single day.
I'm a bit and need to talk -- you -- -- mean -- you know what more.
You know -- your children may like -- -- Benson have been through this sort of the hell of enemy does it at some point.
-- just -- that reaches saturation point I imagine -- efforts for children of politicians they've heard it off.
I mean is there really anything other than that their mother would be away from them campaign but I hope that men get that same sort of criticism being away from their children.
But and terms those -- the personal -- haven't they heard at all.
Yeah you know that's a good point and I know that my kids have heard at all and yet dean of the darts in the heroes keep flying you see that movies are being made books are coming out I'm.
Courted emails from -- loyal former staff member have been compiled by a hateful blogger -- those are gonna be released.
Like that that are taken out of context and told -- The it did and -- isn't an -- -- stuck using aiming for every kind of sticks in the beginning but after awhile it's like you know really and even a knock it down -- -- -- -- me.
Everyday I get email saying how terrible I am on TV I do this I do that I'm -- horrible things.
But -- -- after twenty years on TV it's like yeah okay.
What exactly -- and I'm at that point of saying -- -- you know what ever that didn't it's gotta keep on coming and in -- -- I -- feel like I have a prayer shield in front of me that deflects a lot -- that I just wanna make sure that for my loved ones for my parents for -- thousand my children and those close to meet that.
They have that.
That tool to deflect also also the adversely affected so come along on the ride because of beautiful -- in America into markers he worked we -- opportunity to run for office to help lead this great nation.
I -- those whom I love and respecting each -- about I want them to enjoy the opportunity with me if I so choose to do -- Well well whoever candidate so all the cameras inside Iran they've got to know that we're gonna go after them -- gonna you know hopefully do with good manners I'm gonna be very aggressive -- and everybody is okay -- -- it again.
-- -- What you what you would you can help lead your colleagues in this mission come after us based on our record based on our present -- statements about what we intend to do to four with this country don't come after hours for little -- stupid things -- don't take them out today you know -- then they can't how to do -- and what I don't -- Here's the day here's how we do it here's -- here's how the -- though is almost impossible sometimes not to -- Somebody emails the other day from a tabloid and says we Paris story about one of your kids blob blob block.
And they have the facts all wrong but you have to and they say that they're gonna write the story no matter what and if you don't respond well -- the record what this demonstrates a day it.
He respond to at least get the facts out there that that data can help set the record straight will boom -- just.
You took the bait now they have an opportunity to perpetuate whatever storied is that they have.
Its sick I think is ridiculous it's such a waste a time time is our most precious resource.
I'm -- -- -- -- so yeah I'll take you up on that in -- be more committed to not taking the -- eight.
And you -- able to lead your colleagues in just didn't -- facts out there who what where when and -- -- reporting.
Hammer away at our records and our intentions.
And what our view for America is.
Lay -- the petty stuff.
Well.
Omnia this -- and sting -- Season whoever runs whether you run or not and you know I hope that we go after -- -- aggressively -- is getting there -- you know really bad things in the past you know let's.
You know voters need to know that -- its -- it's it's some of its ugly but you know is it yes Aaron Arnold Schwarzenegger is a perfect example fewer to run again.
You know -- he's gonna betray his wife and his children.
Maybe betrayed the voters I think that's a legitimate topic of some of the stuff -- and hurts.
But it's that's a process I guess that's worried I get of that fire -- -- take up.
It is it and that's it that's fair for the media to come after candidates.
Based on that kind of criteria what really matters and again I have their past actions better reflection of their character and how perhaps that they would govern and and try to lead so that is very fair.
What isn't fair though is when it's only one sided one is only -- conservatives say who get hammered away at W those things that the press wants and how.
You know we had the perfect example of -- the media wants I didn't this is Obama's record not being explored his associations in the last campaign not being explored.
And now revelations of maybe some of his upbringing some of his background certainly his associations how -- impact is his world view and how that affects his decisions today.
I you know I I think that's if it's -- should be counts the same way equally am living on that I actually think it's it tends to fall more along gender lines because I've seen some horrible things said about does speak former speaker Pelosi now.
Leader Pelosi and secretary of state Hillary Clinton a -- Listerine things have been said about them just horrible things.
I think it's sort of equal opportunity morgans and more towards the women.
But I think time after time things should change but that -- what -- ducks back for our all of them.
And also for Iraq candidates.
But I've won one -- -- will say though.
I I think that we should explore people's record.
And I think that's important not just look not just look at the horrible things that are the things we'd -- like what errors.
But also compare and contrast to some of the other things a person brings to the table.
-- compare contrast to explore their record see if what they have done in the past what they're doing today.
I LES affects that there are potential decision making because they're decisions.
In leading this country are going to affect every single one of our lives for the rest of our lives.
Well one thing is clear it's not gonna be judge and I look forward to seeing what happens -- campaign season look forward to seeing know whether -- -- -- out and I'm.
The help -- come back again soon.
Thank -- but the good work Greta thinks.
