Hello are you good morning.
Doing well thanks pat me -- it's a pleasure to have you there was so much so went on in Washington you know -- -- Munson months there's no news on the weekends.
And then suddenly there's so much news on the weekends which has been the story in my estimation since congress -- to have real difference.
I was shot in that parking lot on a weekend every weekend there's something and it all impacts.
All of us in one way or another what do you see -- the headline today.
Well they're they're out there are many headlines to choose from but I think.
Perhaps politically speaking the biggest development over the weekend as Mitch Daniels signed -- drop out of the presidential field.
There had been speculation for weeks whether he would run or not run he was -- -- of the conservative intelligentsia.
Weekly standard did a nice piece on him awhile back he had a lot of people pulling for him.
But as he said over the weekend as in and a -- message to supporters.
He was overruled by his own family by his wife and daughters who did not want to see him running -- see him run for president.
Because they were worried about the media scrutiny of their -- life and the and the period when.
Being separated from his wife they eventually remarried.
But the wife and daughters did not want to undergo that harsh media spotlight.
So as a result one of the favorites or who was an insider's.
For the GOP nomination he's out and the field for 2012 is beginning to solidify.
You know you would think though that if the family was opposed to.
Being public figures.
They -- come to that decision some time ago and his name wouldn't -- been bantered about.
As someone to watch potentially in the race.
Do you think that there's more to the story.
I don't know he it.
The thing with Daniels even though people like Tim that day he had.
Solid policy expertise.
Having served as director of the Office of Management and Budget under bush.
Having good private sector experience having served as a CEO of Eli Lilly.
I'm having -- being respected first political instincts he was in Reagan's political shop.
He was highly touted yet yet the knock on him or the criticism of him was people question whether he would run or not so there it.
Those questions were there from the beginning and I think.
Yeah I think there was there was always some doubt whether he would run or not but people were really pushing him very hard because they thought he makes it because they thought he -- a strong candidate.
-- Daniel -- and entertain those requests and those pleadings.
But at some point he had to make a decision and that was this weekend and he never could overcome the the reluctance of his family.
Let me ask you one question before I moved back to the panel and that is about the debt ceiling.
We reached an.
And the gang of six.
Supposedly working to try to get it under control it's not six anymore what's the impact of that.
The gang of six.
Is pretty much dead Tom Coburn is pulled out as you know.
There -- some talk about them continue as the gang -- five their two Republicans left in that group might create both senator from Idaho and Saxby Chambliss senator from Georgia but.
Not many people in the senator giving that much hope.
This now means that the deficit talks are going to happen.
Between the principles.
President Obama vice president Joe Biden.
Republican leader it in the senate Mitch McConnell and John Boehner and house.
Their second they're second in commands are doing the negotiating right now but.
Okay it means that what we're likely to see this year is a short term deal to get that debt ceiling raised.
By two trillion dollars -- so to take the federal government into 2013 but we're not likely to see a long term deal something that could.
Reduce the deficit by four trillion dollars -- the next ten years that's the goal that was set up by the fiscal commission.
And I think the death of the gang of six -- a lot of people to conclude.
That'll long term agreement to reduce that deficit by sizable amount over the next decade decade just isn't going to happen.
