And tonight on a special edition of Hannity we are kicking off the 2012 campaign -- our very own Hannity primaries.

Out throughout this campaign will be in each candidate a half hour right here on the show to share his or her views with you our audience.

Now first up tonight are former Pennsylvania senator Rick Santorum.

And former New Mexico governor Gary Johnson.

No we've invited the rest of the GOP pack as well and those interviews will take place over the next few months the senator the one and only Rick Santorum senator Howard -- to -- great thank god -- -- in this race.

Why do you why do you want to be the president of the United States.

Well I'm not quite in the race Jeff and I kinda gotten kind of in the race.

Because I think our country's in a very critical time and I think they need someone who's a has a proven leader -- -- consistent.

Passionate conviction conservative.

Could paint a picture for the American public as to why we have to take on the challenges it's our duty to the next generation to take on the challenges we have both overseas and here at home.

Both economically culturally.

Two.

To put America back on the right road on the road that we're gonna leave America better than what we found it and I think a lot of folks are concerned -- across this country.

That.

We're -- -- be the generation that's gonna leave America less.

Then what we found it and as I say all the time not on my watch and I think I've shown that I have a history of being able to lead on those things -- -- history be able to win tough elections.

And and had -- been able to articulate a vision that I get -- Conservatives as well as moderates the following win win elections -- I was surprised one poll I saw.

Your name recognition was about 25%.

Now I know this is my job in politics but you were senator what for two terms right twelve years in the United States senate.

-- I I would oppose trying to look at it from your perspective I think -- he that is a positive because you have an opportunity really introduce yourself.

Get your record out there and then there's a new viewed -- I didn't care about like I.

Night I I see what I do what I do travel honest I've been doing it for the last year cell.

A lot of folks.

Didn't know much about my record I mean I would go to places where I would assume people would know.

You know groups that have you -- for example a pro life group which because I was very active on the pro life issues for example -- They wouldn't have any idea what I hit what I did away in a way what I was working itself.

It's an opportunity to to introduce myself to not just the voters and I would Hampshire and South Carolina -- a lot of time.

But also to the country and I'm looking forward to maybe an opportunity and an obstacle a little bit -- yadda yadda yadda get the -- Greg long it's a little all this process and and them that the fact that.

I and I love the way we'd we do this presidential that you.

You -- start out in California where -- to some money.

I mean that's if if we start out in California New Yorker Florida's the first state.

The B -- -- whoever raises the most money is gonna be able to be elected here when you're at Iowa straw for an Iowa caucus here and that the primary New Hampshire South Carolina.

The people can actually get to kick the tires get to know who the -- target and measure and not just the positions they filed.

But the the way they communicate with people the way -- how genuine they are.

How much conviction and passion they have what their character -- like.

It really is a very important process that -- -- states to a really great job of contributing to racist she.

Huckabee probably was the favorite in Iowa and he's a social conservative you are very well known for your social conservative positions.

Do you think this helps you.

Maybe -- Like Mike Huckabee was very impressed with the way he did talk about those issues I think we share a lot in common on those issues and I feel like I can.

I can fill that void just in.

An Iowa but across the country and I think I can do more than that -- you know have a very strong along record on national security and I think as you saw on this fox debate.

I can answer the question I know I know the -- the issues that are confronting this country have been dealing with them.

For quite quite a long time have experience on the armed services committee -- working on national security issues.

And I also have a very strong record on being a fiscal conservative someone who's never voted for tax increase someone who has been 888 consistent believer in American freedom in the free enterprise system.

I think I can fill that void not just on the -- -- more cultural issues but across the board -- it is we look into this.
