And welcome back to the special edition of Hannity now we've just heard from former Pennsylvania senator Rick Santorum.

That was former New Mexico governor Gary Johnson's turn to tell us why he is the best person take on President Obama and 2012.

How it could disintegrate Sean thanks for -- you run for president.

I'm running for president running for the Republican nomination for president -- you have the -- Europe -- what tri athlete right or.

That great endurance athlete and endurance athlete on the idea I run three miles a -- You know an -- on the tennis -- pass out that that you're gonna need it for this battle.

-- -- you know and I've been at this now for sixteen months with our America initiative so -- they're not on the road talking to people on.

I wouldn't be here if I didn't think I could do the job I wouldn't be -- if I didn't think I could do a good job and you gotta have our resonate to be and.

Involved in this too -- to do to get involved in the context one of the things the show -- -- we wanna give everybody that's front and access.

To people so so they can hear you right now I would the -- only you disagree with me that you -- one of the lesser known Canada absolutely and also a big underdog yeah having what was so what do you do to break -- how do you well -- New Hampshire ends up to bid to be key in the solar -- in the early primary states and have to be key in this that New Hampshire a must spend a lot of time in New Hampshire and New Hampshire they vet the candidates and I think they set -- set the stage for the rest of the country.

They haven't -- really excellent track record.

As governor Matt and I do I really believe that.

Let me excuse me I don't know what's gonna become the you know you've got to have a resonated do you -- -- I mean you balance the budget you cut -- number of thousands of jobs without firing anybody.

You know not one single penny of tax went up over an eight year period would -- -- Medicaid in New Mexico receive 25 -- over what we're spending for Medicaid.

Built 500 miles a four lane highway in the state without raising taxes.

And you've started off by saying 12100 fewer state employees over an eight year period that it never happened before and I think that was really -- attrition that -- we attrition managing.

Not not that we didn't not that we didn't try and get rid of dead wood also but but for the most part it was just managing attrition parts.

-- where you I think you run into difficulty like every candidate has some difficulties okay.

I think you're difficulty is that you're on the more libertarian side of the Republican Party but you are Republican and yeah I am a Republican and I would argue that perhaps some of these issues are really conservative and that it is conservative and that for me.

As governor of New Mexico everything was a cost benefit analysis everything.

What are we spending our money on and what are we getting for the money that we're spending.

And included in my tenure as governor I've.

You know it might be a bit of an embellishment Sean but I may have vetoed more legislation in the other 49 governors in the country combined.

And New Mexico is 201 AM a line item veto a bunch a thousand -- -- trade thousands of times today used the line item veto.

And given that New Mexico is a state that's two to one Democrats I I think the fact that I get reelected.

Really speaks volumes to the fact that people appreciate good stewardship of tax dollars and I'm -- argue that I did that is no doubt that I think for national security reasons and for obvious economic reasons the defining issue of our time is is the economy.

And the dead and the deficits and and out of control spending in this power Redmond Washington.

How do you stop that big question but how -- I'm under the belief that we're on the verge of a financial collapse.

And -- -- week.

And and that and that's in lieu of the fact that we have fourteen trillion dollars in debt.

And we have no.

We have no ability to repay fourteen trillion dollars in debt if before racking up one point six trillion dollars in deficit spending this year.

The year prior two years prior and the year is looking ahead.

Look we're not we're not gonna -- back fourteen trillion dollars in -- so we have to do here is embark on balancing the federal budget tomorrow.

How well.

Cutting one point 65 trillion dollars from -- the federal government.

You gotta start out by talking about Medicaid and Medicare and I'll just throw out some suggestions here.

There are others but let me just throw out the fact that the federal government could cut Medicaid and Medicare by 43%.

They could block grant the states and I'm gonna say this throughout my campaign.

Fifty laboratories of innovation.

But the notion of best practices.

Give it give it to the states to deliver health care to the poor and those over 65 and do away with the strings.

Do away with though regulations including Iraq -- -- -- -- the regular.

Let the states handle -- there would be best practices.

-- merge other states would emulate the best practices.

There'd be failures states would avoid the failure.

In New Mexico Medicaid now it came with all the strings attached it came with all the regulation attached it came with a mandate -- -- -- the services that you had to deliver.

But Medicaid in the state of New Mexico I shifted that from a fee for service model.

Two at 2 AM managed care model and save 25%.

If I -- -- effect if I were to have been given Medicare I -- done the same thing with Medicare and save 25% and by the way.

I use 25% I could've saved more money I still could have delivered.

Health care to those truly in need by cutting -- 43% I could've done that.

But -- I was governor of the state my had a legislature that was two thirds Democrats.

And you know I wasn't the benevolent dictator what what about.
