There -- new fallout today after President Obama had a humorous moment about shovel ready projects.
That during a meeting with his jobs -- here's what he said in North Carolina yesterday afternoon.
That's exactly what we see.
American business show shovel ready was not as.
Shovel -- expect.
Remember the shovel ready can have a stimulus plan that cost about a trillion dollars South Carolina congress -- Khamenei.
As a Republican on the house budget joint economic and small business committee -- are you doing good morning to you.
Morning bill -- to bring -- a comment.
-- heart and it hurt a lot I've got 50% unemployment in my district I'm sure certain those folks weren't laughing you sort of get the impression that the president.
Doesn't really know how to create jobs doesn't know how the economy creates jobs it is sort of getting this on the job training that's costing us a trillion dollars so it it -- No I would watch what a shovel ready mean two years there.
Let's go to work tomorrow listen if if all of the stimulus had gone to actually building roads and bridges I think -- Have much much less debate in this nation but clearly that's not what the stimulus was intended to do.
They're much more wealth transfer programs in the actual roads and bridges and -- the trillion dolls was gone.
And I've still got broken down roads and bridges in my district in addition to the unemployment so why was it pushed through and 21 days there.
-- what -- when that people -- in the -- and didn't really understand what it mentally and anyway.
That because it it it bought a lot of votes and that's when it comes down that the stimulus project was it was a re election program for the president.
Not a jobs program for America I think we've we've been saying that now for two years.
Unfortunately we're in the very uncomfortable position now having said I told you so but it sooner or later you -- You got a call it up for what it was it was it was not an effective way to put people back to you know.
I remember well when it was signed into law we sent a crew out the central Missouri.
And they were doing repairs on a bridge old broken down bridge -- -- wanted to restore for the people that community they needed it to be.
Rebuilt there like seven guys work and that there.
And and we look -- the size of the bills well over 700 billion dollars since that I believe it's gone up what 860.
Billion dollars in total cost.
And he had seven guys on a bridge.
I think your point is well taken I think most people thought when you were putting money into rebuilding the infrastructure in America that's what you're gonna get.
Freshly paved roads in new bridges.
And we did we got wealth transfer payments and another 300 billion dollars of interest on top of that 800 billion dollars in cost.
Was that a trade in dollars we bankrupt ourselves and we have very very little to show for an official -- my district in terms of new jobs again -- -- 15% unemployment trying to deal with back home soon you'll find much humor in that and do you.
Not all in fact it's it's very close to being insulting to to the folks in South Carolina.
What is the Republican plan.
-- -- Jobs in America you know you look at this debate last guy you can you can pivot off that if you live here.
I want to know and our viewers wanted to.
What you would do different.
It's it's really simple when the government spends more.
Business spends less when the government spends less business spends more and when business spends more.
That's when people go back to work you can go back and look if you want to during the Clinton administration the last time we had a real boom time in this economy what happened.
It was higher taxes it was a smaller federal government.
During the Democrat administration the Republican congress the federal government got much smaller both in terms of the number employees.
And the size of the government relative to the overall economy would government spent less.
Business spent more at everybody went back to work and that's what we're offering in Washington to the point -- that means less regulation the president conceded that yesterday.
He said Washington's full rules and you -- have fewer of them.
-- you you're on -- with him on that.
Well he's conceded it but again that's all talk you -- -- I've I've represented state or borrowing is trying to move into assembly line for new airplane.
But we're being sued Boeing is by the -- administration.
Agency the NLRB to prevent exactly that from happening.
The president says all the right things he's been saying it since his State of the Union Address less regulation.
Easier to do business but the actions just don't match up with the words you know -- -- a wonderful town I got -- -- is there couple months ago it's one of the few American cities -- been in the past three years.
Where -- actually creating jobs and -- great sight to see.
Sir thanks for coming on today OK -- on -- out of South Carolina.
